Level Accounting & Advisory has been around for 20 years. We’re a construction-specialized firm based in Vero Beach, Florida, with clients across the country — HVAC, electrical, plumbing, concrete, roofing, general constractors, pool, decks, fencing, hardscape, high-end landscape. Specialty trades doing $1M to $15M a year.
Everyone here works in construction accounting full-time. We don’t do “a little of everything for everyone.” We picked a lane and stayed in it.
Click through the tabs below for more about how we work, communicate & what we expect from our team.
What we do for clients: bookkeeping and reconciliation, job costing setup, tax planning (twice a year, built into every engagement), business and personal tax returns, payroll through Gusto, 1099 filings, workers comp and GL audit prep, financial dashboards, and quarterly strategic sessions for higher-tier clients. CFO services, AP/AR, and bill pay are rolling out next. We’re done-for-you. Our clients want as little of this on their plate as possible.
What we don’t do: 300 personal tax returns a season. We’re not a tax mill. We go deep with a focused list of contractor clients, not turn-and-burn with anyone who has a W-2.
QuickBooks Online Plus and JobTread are the backbone. But we’re not a firm that picked a stack in 2018 and called it done. We’re a cutting-edge firm and we work hard to stay that way. We’re always testing AI tools, new software, and better internal processes for efficiency and accuracy, both inside the firm and inside our client relationships. Our processes change. Our tools change. If you’re the person who fights every new system, this isn’t the place.
Our clients are contractors. Most of them don’t check their email. They really only have it because they need it to log into things. You cannot be afraid of the phone.
The clients assigned to you are YOUR relationships. Yours to nurture, yours to own. We don’t accept “well, I sent them an email about it.” That’s not the job. Your task isn’t complete until you’ve reached the client, gotten the answer, and moved the work forward. End to end. No hiding behind a sent folder.
We don’t micromanage. We hire adults and treat them like adults.
If you notice a piece of software is acting up, you don’t just “let someone know.” You try to solve it first. Open a ticket with the vendor. Google the error. Ask a teammate who’s probably hit this before. THEN, if you’re stuck, flag it. With what you’ve already tried.
If you have three client meetings on Tuesday and you wake up sick, you don’t text Erin or Jake first. Those are YOUR clients. You message them, reschedule, and THEN loop us in.
If you’re going on vacation, you plan coverage with your teammates before you go. What’s pending, who’s covering, what the client knows. Not the day before. Ahead of time.
On mistakes: Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone forgets things. We do too. The work has a lot of moving parts and you will drop something at some point. That’s fine. We love mistakes. They’re how we get better as a firm.
What we expect: you OWN it. You tell us what happened, you tell the client if it affects them, and you come with a plan for how you’re going to lower the odds of it happening again.
What we have zero tolerance for: hiding mistakes, blaming someone else, making excuses, or pretending it didn’t happen. None of that. Ever.
Monthly cycles. Tax season is tax season. But with two planning sessions a year per client, the workload spreads out more than at most firms. Clients expect us to pick up the phone. We don’t chase paperwork forever; clients who go quiet get a real conversation, not endless follow-ups.
We’re not a corporate firm. We swear a lot. We walk the line between professional and pirate-ship casual. We tell clients when we think they’re making a bad call. We don’t dress up bad news. If you need to hide behind formality, you’ll be uncomfortable here.
Every staff member has KPIs. Every staff member has a weekly check-in with Erin or Jake. What’s working, what’s not, where you need support, and direct feedback. The street goes both ways. If something on our end is making your job harder, we want to hear it.
We also don’t want people who just “do their job.” The firm is a living, breathing entity, and the only way it gets better is if everyone on the team is paying attention. Flagging gaps in our internal processes. Calling out where a client service could be tighter. Pushing back when something isn’t working. If you want to clock in, hit your task list, and clock out without thinking about the bigger picture, we’re going to drive each other crazy.
Erin (Owner, President of Business Development) and Jake (CEO, Enrolled Agent) run the firm. It’s small enough that what you say matters, big enough that you’re not the only one doing your role.
We are not a good fit for every person. we like to be really clear about that up front to save everyone time.
At Level Accounting, we’re on the lookout for talented professionals seeking accounting careers in Vero Beach. Our team is dedicated to providing top-notch services to our clients, and we’re excited to welcome new members who share our passion.
